Can't Wait To Read Books of 2014

4:18 PM

Hey everyone!

We've come up with an idea so that you guys will know whose post you're reading. From now on, blog posts will have the name button of the person who wrote that post at the top of each blog post. For example, this blog post is written by us: Kimi and Audrey, so our name buttons are shown above.

Anyway, since 2014 has just started, both of us have decided to write a post about our Can't-Wait-To-Read books of the year. We've had a lot of good reads this year and you can read our past reviews by looking through our archives. As we say goodbye to the books we read last year, we will also say hello to the books we want- and will- read this year. Trust us, there are a lot. We have to condense the list into just 14 books.

First up on our list is...

1. Isla and The Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

A few years ago, we heard about Anna and The French Kiss, but we didn't read it because we didn't like the title and the cover was too chick-lit for us. But after looking through Goodreads and Amazon to scout for new YA books, we found that Anna and The French Kiss had a really high rating and decided to read it. We instantly fell in love with the book and decided to read the rest of the series. Though we thought Lola and the Boy Next Door was pretty much a downer, Anna and the French Kiss made us actually swoon, so yes, we are reading Isla and the Happily Ever After.

2. Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally

This is the fifth book in the Hundred Oaks series. When we first heard about Catching Jordan, the first book in the series, we didn't read it because we thought it would be a shallow book about highschool. But when we did read it, it turned out to be so much more than that. There are actually some serious issues tackled by the book, such as religion, gender roles, student-teacher relationships, morality, and more. This series certainly isn't the most well-written we've read, but we ended up liking it anyway. We look forward to reading the fifth installment, Breathe, Annie, Breathe.

3. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

We first found out about E. Lockhart when we read The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks. It was very well written and the main character was really badass. Ever since then, we have been fans of E. Lockhart and her writing. We are very excited for her next book, We Were Liars, because it is a suspense novel and we will definitely read it this year.

4. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
We have always been big fans of the original Wizard of Oz and Wicked, a prequel based on the Wizard of Oz, so when we heard about Dorothy Must Die it piqued our interest. It sounds very interesting, for in this book, Dorothy appears to be the villain. It also portrays Glinda the Good Witch as two-faced.

5. Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren Morrill

Switching the lives of two characters with the same name is not a unique story, but when we read the synopsis, we both agreed that the book seemed interesting enough. We have never read a book by Lauren Morrill but we want to give this one a try.

6. Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy

At first, we thought that this book would be a ripoff of John Green's The Fault In Our Stars since the main character has been diagnosed with leukemia, but reading further into the synopsis, it turned out that this book is so much different. The book is actually about a girl with leukemia who makes an awful bucketlist because she's just gonna die anyway and yolo, but it turns out that she isn't actually going to die, so now she has to face the consequences of her actions. We think that it is a huge challenge to read a book with a character that seems so despicable and flawed, but we're up for it.

7. No One Else Can Have You by Kathleen Hale

We were interested in this book because it is a murder mystery novel and we rarely read books like that. The closest thing we've read to this is Paper Towns by John Green which we enjoyed reading so we're hoping to like this one too.

8. Love and Other Foreign Words by Erin McCahan

We read the synopsis of this and it said that this book is a cross between John Green and Rainbow Rowell. We like both of these two author's books and so we want to read a book that promises something similar to their stories. We also think that the play on language is an interesting premise.

9. Torn Away by Jennifer Brown

We don't really like reading books that involve tragedy caused by natural disasters but we realized upon reading the synopsis that the story of this book seems to focus more on the relationship of the girl with her grandparents and her coming of age rather than the aftermath of the tragedy.

10. Lies My Girlfriend Told Me by Julie Anne Peters

We have never actually read a book with lesbian relationships so this book will certainly be interesting and different. We have already read Luna by the same author which is about a transgender teen trying to find his identity in the world, and we loved it. But what we like about this book is that it does not seem to focus on the character being a lesbian but on love and relationship in general.

11. The Art of Secrets by James Klise

We like the unique way that this story is portrayed. It isn't shown in the conventional writing style or even in poems, but in interviews, articles, and many more. We rarely find books like this so now that we have found one, we are most certainly gonna read it.

12. Guy In Real Life by Steve Brezenoff

We like reading love stories between teens because it is cute, sweet, but also very real. This book seems to be very geeky with the video game references and the characters being RPG masters as well but we're the Geeky Chiquitas after all, so nothing is ever too geeky for us.

13. The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie Halse Anderson is known for tackling very serious issues in her work. We've already read Speak, Wintergirls, and Twisted, which were books made by her too and we liked them all. PTSD is something that we're very curious about and we hope to learn more about it through reading this book.

14. Say What You Will by Cammie McGovern

We've always been interested with psychological disorders and this book has characters that have cerebral palsy and OCD, but what we like most about it is how a relationship is able to form between the two characters despite their illnesses.

So that's that! We just realized that only 6 out of 14 books here were made by authors we already know. We guess we really are trying to expand our horizons.
