The Christmas Series: 3 is The Magic Number
11:08 AM Have you ever noticed that in books and movies, the number three seems to pop up all the time? I don't know why and I won't even try to find out. Try to think of all the books you've read and all the movies you've watched. The number three will always be there. For example, the Harry Potter Series there are three main characters: Harry, Hermione, and Ron. There are the three powerful objects: the Elder Wand, the stone that can bring the dead back to life, and the Invisibility Cloak. In Greek mythology, the number three seems to be everpresent. The Three Fates, The Three Furies, The Big Three, The Three-headed dog whose name, if I'm not mistaken, is Cerberus. Even in the Percy Jackson Series, only three people normally go on quests.
If you're not yet convinced, here's more:
The Three Little Pigs:
Goldilocks and The Three Bears:
The Three Stooges:
The Three Blind Mice:
The Three Wise Men:
There is also a saying:
Now, I do hope that I have enough examples for you to see the significance of the number three in books and movies.
I am thankful for the number three itself because without it, we would miss out on a lot of amazing books and movies. Of course, the number three isn't found in just books and movies but also in places like The Three Sisters in Australia.
I cannot even begin to imagine what it would be like if there were Five Musketeers or six main characters in the Harry Potter Series. I think that three is just right, especially in adventure books, two would suggest a romantic theme, one could turn boring, four and above would be too many and might become confusing, but three is just right, at least, in my opinion.
