Santa's Sock of Surprises: Christmas Movies and Songs

Christmas is almost upon us so, of course, we have to do something special! We decided that on the five days leading up to Christmas, we would be posting a 'SURPRISE', something related to Christmas. It'll be going on for five days. For today, we'll be doing a blogpost about things that you'll want and need to get into the Christmas Spirit. So, if you're not feeling Christmas-y yet or if you're feeling super Christmas-y and just want to get more things about Christmas, this list is perfect for you.

We'll start off with movies!

1. It's a Wonderful Life

This movie is a classic. Audrey has to admit that she's never watched it but according to a couple of reviews that she's read (okay, one review) it's a timeless movie that gets better the more you watch it. It's simple and sweet and enlightening too.

2. Holiday Inn

This movie/musical is a sweet, heartwarming, and charming classic that will definitely help you get into the Christmas spirit. It's cute romantic and has a happy ending, of course. It's guaranteed to make you smile and inspire you to celebrate Christmas.

3. Christmas Carol

Okay, I think everyone's watched this or at least heard about it. This is actually one of Audrey's favorite Christmas movies since for her, it has this ageless feel to it that would make you wanna watch it every Christmas. No matter how old you are, this movie is great and I assure you that by the end of it, you'll want to spend Christmas generously with your entire family around you.

4. Elf

At first glance, this movie might have seemed like a horrible idea. You might think it would be corny, irritating, shallow, and obvious, but actually, it's none of the above. It's actually this funny, smart, and cute little movie that will warm the hearts of even those who hate Christmas. It's perfect for the holiday season and it'll definitely make you want to put a Santa costume on, bring out the hot cocoa, and play a lot of holiday music.

Speaking of music, the next category is actually songs!

To be completely honest, we don't really know that much Christmas songs which is why these songs are like classics. But hey, who doesn't want to sing-along?
1. Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer- Jewel (1999)

2. White Christmas Bing Crosby (1942)

3. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" - Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi (2003)

4. The 12 Days of Christmas" - Taking Back Sunday (2006)

5. Silent Night" - Jackie Evancho (2010)

We hope you guys enjoyed! Don't forget to check out our previous posts:

New Year's Kiss Unraveled

Hey everyone! There's only a few hours left til the clock strikes midnight. How's your New Year's Eve so far?

The New Year is often celebrated by parties, good food, revelry and of course not to forget the infamous midnight smooch to greet the New Year. I've never kissed anyone in New Year, but that's because I've always celebrated it with my family, and I'm left with choices like: my stupid brother, my parents, our annoying dog, and 1234567890 relatives who I don't feel very kissy with. And who kisses their family on the lips anyway? Well, not in our family.

Countdown to 2k14: One Thing I Learned to Never Forget

There's only 1 day left til' New Year, so I'll share to you the one important thing I learned this year.

There is one thing that I will never forget which I actually learned this year. It's all about learning to love yourself. I will never forget this for as long as I live.

I came to this conclusion when I started thinking about all of the popular commercials promoting whitening creams or those products that are "guaranteed to make you thinner in two weeks". Those commercials are just big, fat lies, brainwashing us, making us think that being white or thin is better.

I learned that though it is good to think about other people's feelings, we shouldn't forget about our own feelings. Everybody is equal to one another. Nobody's feelings is superior to another person's feelings. Why can't we look at ourselves first and keep in mind that we are special, important, and beautiful? Why do we always forget to consider our own feelings?

Countdown to 2k14: My 3 Overwatched Movies of the Year

There's only 3 days left before New Year, so for today's countdown, I'll be sharing the top 3 mainstream movies I over watched this year.

Catching Fire

This is a pretty obvious one, given I've already written 2 blogposts about this movie (this being the 3rd). The movie certainly isn't the best movie of the year (far from it actually, lol it could be improved) but being The Hunger Games, Peeniss/Everlark, Jennifer Lawrence, and Josh Hutcherson stan that I am, of course I had to watch it 3 times in the theaters, and 12345678900 times at home on my computer. No regrets though, my download even had Chinese subtitles and shadows occasionally passing by the screen. Isn't that awesome?

What I got out of this: I can act out (with feelings) the beach scene line by line (Peeta: Nobody needs me. Katniss: I do. I need you *momol*), the scene at the end when Katniss attacks Haymitch (Katniss: You lied to me! You're a liar! *scratches and attacks Haymitch's face), the Katniss and Peeta speech scene (Peeta: Our lives aren't measured by years they are measured by the lives we've touched around us. Katniss: I'm sorry I couldn't save her) and more! And yes I can deliver these scenes WITH LEGIT FEELINGS! Oh and I can fake whistle the Rue song, and I know that the credits come out in order of appearance.

Frozen

Okay, so before anything let me get this straight. Out of the 11 times I saw this movie, only 3 times did I watch it willingly. The other 8 times I watched it because my little 4 year old cousin wanted to see the movie over and over again and I had no choice but to play it for her, thus tempting myself to actually watch it again. I only watched this once in theaters, and I reacted at the end saying "wow I am so watching this again!" Who knew again meant 8, 9, I mean, 10 more times?

What I got out of this: I can sing all the songs in the soundtrack, most notably Let it Go and Do You Wanna Build a Snowman? I've memorized all these songs, and I know all the timings, like when the music fades in or fades out or which songs will play at which scene. I also know the dialogue in the Elsa Anna confrontation scenes, notably the "Go away, Anna" scene.

Countdown to 2k14: Top 4 Best Food

Hunger could lead into a blog post and that's exactly what's happening to me right now. (lol) Because I am really hungry right now, an idea came to my mind to share to you my top four favorite food. Also, there are four days left before New Year, so I'll share to you four different kinds of food too.

WARNING: What you will read below is all about food. Food that will make you hungry just like me. ;) FOOD THAT WILL MAKE YOUR MOUTH WATER.

You have been warned.

1. Red Velvet Cupcakes

First up on the list is a small dessert. It's red, it's beautiful, and absolutely tasty. It has a taste somewhere between chocolate and vanilla. Plus, it is topped with cream cheese frosting that will leave your taste buds craving for more. I love this cupcake, and it has been my favorite dessert of the year. I love you red velvet.

2. Salads

Since I've got a dessert on my list, an appetizer should be too. The best appetizer of the year goes to salad! I am not a fan of vegetables, but salad is amazing! It's also a ready to eat dish, so you can eat in anytime. The salad dressing makes it even more delicious. I especially love the salad in Italianni's so you should go check it out. Definitely, this green dish is part of my top four best food of the year.

Countdown to 2k14: 5 Unforgettable Books

Because we had so much fun doing the Christmas Series, we decided to make another countdown - this time to New Year!

Exciting, huh? :)

With 5 days left today, I will begin the countdown by writing about the 5 best books I read this year and why I liked them so much. The arrangement of these books don't matter - if I put a book in number one, it doesn't mean that it's the best among the five. The order is completely random.

1. Eleanor and Park

When I was younger I didn't like reading love stories, I usually read adventure and mystery books. Eleanor and Park is the reason why I've decided to give love stories a try which is why I put it on number one in my list. I like that this book had two very interesting and relatable characters. They aren't rich or popular. Park is a not-so-tall Korean boy and Eleanor is a poor, 'chubby', and weird red-head. They are very different and yet they go very well together. I wouldn't say that they are opposites but they certainly aren't similar to each other. I loved everything about this book and I will definitely read it again.

2. Dash and Lily's Book of Dares

I have no idea why I like this book, all I know is that I do. Maybe it's because both of the characters are clever, or maybe it's because when Dash and Lily first meet they don't fall in love instantly (though Lily was kinda drunk at the time). I don't know why but I liked it. It's not a book that I would usually read but I'm glad I did.

GCQ Christmas Rituals

'Twas the night before Christmas...

HAPPY HAPPY CHRISTMAS from the Geeky Chiquitas!

We've spent the past 10 days counting down to this day, and finally it's Christmas Day! ❤️

I know some of you will be like "I don't feel the Christmas spirit" and all just cause it's the mainstream thing to feel like right now, but in our family we love Christmas! So let us share some of the stuff we do EVERY SINGLE YEAR during Christmas:

1. We celebrate Christmas Eve, not Christmas day.
I've always thought we celebrated Christmas Eve cause we wanted to countdown to midnight and be together when it's finally Christmas, but not really. I think it's because everyone else celebrates Christmas Eve so we being the bandwagonners we are of course we didn't want to miss out. I asked my mom for good measure and she had no great reason to celebrate Christmas on the 24th Eve not the 25th. We just do.

2. Stockings

In our family, everyone hangs stockings by the stairs. In all our houses, cousins relatives, every house that has a child, there are stockings by the stairs with the child's name. And we all pretend that a fat man with a beard wearing red robes sneaks into our house at night while we're all sleeping, through somewhere (definitely not the chimney cause we don't have one) and puts candy and goodies inside. When in fact, from the 18 year old to the 4 year old in the family, no one is dumb enough to think that that's real. We all know an aunt puts the candy inside, but what the heck right? Even 'Santa' knows that we know that she isn't actually Santa but we all like a little bit of make believe and just ride off each other for fun.

3. Baked Macaroni
We ALWAYS have baked macaroni during Christmas Eve. And we can't eat it till midnight. We eat other stuff for dinner - like BBQ, chicken, lechon, fish, etc - but the baked Mac is hands off til the clock strikes 12. There isn't really any explanation for this either. Someone jokingly commented that's it's for long life, but baked Mac? Really? Are you dumb?

The Christmas Series: The One

Have you ever noticed that when you look too hard for something, you don't seem to get any closer to finding it? But when you relax, you'll find it in the place it was supposed to be in? I guess that's the same with looking for your "the one". They'll just appear in the right place at the right time.

They'll come when you least expect it. You might find them at a parking lot or an antique shop. It could happen when your  8, 18, or even 80. The one could be anywhere anytime.  "the one" isn't like a fairytale where everything will just fit perfectly like a glove. There will be challenges but it doesn't mean it won't be magical too.

The Christmas Series: My 4 Kinds of Love for 4 Cheese Pizza

If you don't love pizza, then we can't be friends.

Seriously.

(Haha!)

My love for pizza is definitely indescribable. I love pizza so much that I can eat it everyday in every meal. I can eat pizza like there's no tomorrow. Pizza is like the love of my life.

Speaking of love, I can even compare my love for pizza with the four kinds of love.

The Christmas Series: My Love for Food and the 5 Second Rule

Oh wait, what's that? You've never heard of the 5 second rule???

Gasp.

Well, there's no other way to explain the 5 second rule aside from painting a hypothetical scenario which I'm sure everyone has done, despite not knowing what the 5 second rule even is.

Because I know you all do it. *snickers*

Okay, so take a 5 second moment (see what I did there lol) right there to indulge yourself into the thoughts of your favorite food. It could be anything from spaghetti to macaroni to pizza to chicken to chips or fries. For me it will always be fries.

Then imagine a plate full of that heaven sent food miraculously appearing in front of you. You lean in, sniff the appetizing oh-so-glorious smell in the air (it's close to the smell of victory), see the hot oily greasy temptation sensation beautiful obra maestra sitting in front of you, and now you feel your mouth water. Your hand shoots straight to the plate about to take a piece, and you're almost there, the piece of fries is about to make its first contact with your quivering mouth, when BAM! It slips right out of your lazy fingertips and falls to the floor.

You look left and right, up and down, as if checking if anyone is watching. And before you count to 5, you quickly pick it up and eat it.

Guilty?

Or proud?

Here's a little secret. (Well not a secret anymore obv)

The Christmas Series: The Six Basic Expressions

The six basic expressions are:
1. Happiness

2. Sadness

3. Surprise

4. Fear
5. Disgust

6. Anger

It's kinda obvious why I am thankful for these six basic emotions but I'm gonna explain anyway. These emotions are used everyday by everyone, and I know that there are a lot of other emotions, but I believe that these are the most well-known out of them all. Without these emotions, we would become infinitely robot-like and I'm pretty sure we don't need that (well most of us).

These emotions are the root for a lot of other emotions and if we didn't have these emotions, would there be any other emotions? These emotions are all linked to one another, even the opposing emotions like happiness and sadness. To truly appreciate happiness, we must first feel the greatest sadness that we have known, and to truly understand sadness we need to feel the greatest happiness in this world. Anger leads to happiness and relief when all that anger has gone away.

I don't want to live in a world without these emotions. They are the reasons why we aren't machines (aside from being made of flesh and blood) and I hope that we can all learn to appreciate these emotions even the negative ones.

-AUDS :) :( :O

The Christmas Series: 8am classes, please love me

Because really, who loves 8am classes?

Nobody, right? So for this blog post I just wanna list down all the reasons (and now you'll know this will be fast because really how many reasons could there be? Lol I'm kidding but yes this will be short I promise and now I'm rambling again sorry) why I am thankful for 8am classes.

I Just realized recently that I haven't had any 8am classes since last school year, term 3. While there are no complaints in my department whatsoever with regards to my no-8am-classes schedule for the past two terms, I'd like to somehow maybe justify that 8am classes could be a good thing too.

Shocker huh?

But jokes aside (was there a joke??? Ha-ha. Not funny...) 8am classes have done a lot of good to me too.

And it's only now that I haven't had an 8am class in a long time that I realize how much 8am classes have changed my life for the better (to some extent).

Absence makes the heart grow fonder they say.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Really.

The Christmas Series: 10 Titles;10 Fingers

Guess what happens when Kimi, Audrey and Beryl's minds unite? First, the "Geeky Chiquitas" was formed, and now we present "The Christmas Series"! It's the greatest time of the year, and we think it's the perfect opportunity for thanksgiving, which will be the primary theme of this Christmas blog series. Don't expect ordinary, cliche posts about usual stuff like family, friends, but instead we'll bring in a new twist! Expect inspiring, funny, and fresh tales coming your way this Christmas season.

This Christmas Series will be composed of ten consecutive blog posts about anything we're thankful for, and these will be released exactly ten days before Christmas - which means that there will be a new blog post every single day for ten straight days! We've been looking forward to launch our first ever blog series, and we think now's the perfect time.

So for today December 15, exactly 10 days before Christmas, I (Beryl) will begin with my 1st thanksgiving post!
